WINTER PIPE BURST WARNING! VERY IMPORTANT!
It is rare for temperatures to fall into the 20 degrees F in Gulf Shores but on occasion it does occur. The Playful Pelican is not designed for such extreme cold weather as the pipes under the house are exposed. This means that if there should be a hard freeze (i.e. temperatures in the 20 degrees F for more than two hours) the pipes will freeze and they could burst. If this happens, the house will have to be closed for extensive repairs.
To avoid this we ask our winter renters to keep an eye on the weather reports and the temperature. Should there be a hard freeze you will need to leave the water faucets running. A slow drip is not enough. Please leave the faucet on a light steady stream (day and night) any time the weather falls into the 20 degrees F. Also keep the heat set to a minimum of 75 degrees F.
In extreme cases cold weather can cause the floor under the washing machine to freeze causing water to spill out over the floor. This can be avoided by running the washing machine on a hot water cycle every few hours during extreme cold weather.
